چکیده
1 Communicative & Integrative Biology 2009; Vol. 2 Issue 5 We recently found positive correlations between human general intelligence and three key indices of semen quality, and hypothesized that these correlations arise through a phenotypewide ‘general fitness factor’ reflecting overall mutation load. In this addendum we consider some of the biochemical pathways that may act as targets for pleiotropic mutations that disrupt both neuron function and sperm function in parallel. We focus especially on the inter-related roles of polyunsaturated fatty acids, exocytosis and receptor signaling.

Changes of fatty acid profiles in fillets of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum) during frozen storage
In this study changes in fatty acids profile during frozen storage at -18°C of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum), caught from the Persian Gulf (Bandar Abbas) were studied. Changes in saturated fatty acids (SFAs), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), EPA+DHA/C16, n-3 PUFA/n-6 PUFA (n-3/n-6) and polyunsaturated fatty acids /saturated fatty acids (PUFA/SFA) were i...
متن کاملMetabolic Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Chickens: A Review
Chicken has been used as a suitable model for lipid metabolism studies, because dietary modifications especially dietary fat type can change chicken body composition. Fats act as a condense source of energy and certain fatty acids such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are required for both animal and human health. The n-3 PUFAs, especially, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic ...

متن کاملPolyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Children
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are the major components of brain and retina, and are the essential fatty acids with important physiologically active functions. Thus, PUFAs should be provided to children, and are very important in the brain growth and development for fetuses, newborn infants, and children. Omega-3 fatty acids decrease coronary artery disease and improve blood flow. PUFAs ha...
متن کاملn-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and insulin secretion.
n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are a subgroup of fatty acids with broad health benefits, such as lowering blood triglycerides and decreasing the risk of some types of cancer. A beneficial effect of n-3 PUFAs in diabetes is indicated by results from some studies. Defective insulin secretion is a fundamental pathophysiological change in both types 1 and 2 diabetes. Emerging studies have ...
متن کاملPolyunsaturated Fatty Acids Play a Role in Depression: Main Action Mechanisms
The omega-3 and omega-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs) are either synthesized from the essential fatty ACIDs α-Linolenic Acid (ALA) and Linoleic Acid (LA) respectively, or obtained from the diet. Omega-3 PUFAs, Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) are found predominantly in oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. Some experimental, clinical and epidemiologica...
